WEEK TWO (8/26/2010) JOURNAL

Thursday 26th August we studied about the Europeans exploration to America and how America was said to be discovered by Christopher Columbus and we learned about the three main reasons why the Europeans explore the Americas in our global leadership class.
I enjoy this class because, we have the opportunity to express our views on different issues and come to our own conclusions on how we feel about the topic of discussion.
On Friday 27th August we went to a car show at charlotte in the racing car stadium where we saw on display cars made in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, it was an official visit organized by the automotive technology department for all students in the department.
I like the trip because it gives us a clear picture of how far the automobile industry has developed looking at the various types of models and engines used at that time as compared to today’s automobiles
Sunday 29th August 2010, Akua and I went to church and after the service is over, a member from the church requested to pick us to her favorite restaurant for lunch in Greesboro of which we accept. Surprisingly, we went an Italian Restaurant ‘Carrabba’s Italian Grill’ and what amazed me the most was the person who took us there invited her family to come over to meet us.  We have no choice to make on the menu since everything is new; low and behold I ordered ‘grill chicken salads’ and whilst waiting for our meals we interact with the family and we actually had a good time.
I really enjoyed being in their company and the Italian dishes was nice and I was happy I did not frown my face for eating for the first time in my life.
Monday 30th AugustWe learned about braking system in my automotive class and later went into the workshop for practical coursework. I was excited to machine a brake disc successfully by myself during our automotive lab work.  I also used electric power tool to cut a piece of pipe into a recommended dimensions given to us by our instructor.
Tuesday 31st August I went to a seminar organized by the international education committee in which my colleague international students Akua and Kathiuska were expected to do a presentation on the topic ‘A day in life of Ghana & Nicaragua’. First of all I was happy about the great number of people gathered waiting to learn about other countries .Secondly, I was happy about how my coleagues students gathered the courage and enthusiasm to make such a wonderful presentation even though this was their first time to stand before such an incredible crowd.
